Company Profile

What began as a small company in the pre-World War II era in Kolkata, stands today as a colossus among the electric fan manufacturers in India. Initially called the Calcutta Electrical Manufacturing Company Ltd., ORIENT FANS, as it is known today, was inducted into the family of the corporate major, the Birla Group, in 1954. Today, ORIENT FANS is part of the C.K.Birla Group of companies - an USD 900 million group that has powered many big businesses which, among several others, include Automobiles, Paper, Cement, Asbestos Sheets, Ball Bearings and Software and which has pioneered many large industrial ventures in India and abroad.

Over the years, ORIENT FANS, from a humble beginning of managing a production capacity of a mere 15,000 fans every year, has relentlessly geared itself towards successfully pursuing an ever rising level of goals. This has resulted in ORIENT FANS managing a present production capacity of over 3 million units, which covers a wide range of Ceiling Fans, Desk Fans, Wall-Mounted Fans, Pedestal Fans, Exhaust Fans and Multi-Utility Fans, thereby becoming a dominant force in the Indian fan industry.

Firsts

Armed with a dedicated human resource inventory of nearly 500 personnel, exclusive in-house R&D facilities, two state of the art manufacturing plants in Kolkata & Faridabad (near New Delhi) - both ISO 9001 certified units and decades of rich experience, the company has many firsts to its credit.

  • ORIENT FANS was the first to introduce die-casting of the rotor and fan body cover in ceiling fans, in India, back in 1965.

  • That very year ORIENT FANS introduced semi automatic coil-winding process thereby improving upon the quality and efficiency of the fans.

  • Dual assembly line system in fan manufacturing was first implemented by ORIENT FANS, which drastically cut down upon the fan assembly time.

  • ORIENT FANS was the first fan manufacturer to replace heavy cast iron blades and body with ones made from sturdy light weight alloy.

  • In 1988 ORIENT FANS again hit the headlines with introduction of automatic coil winding which not only boosted productivity but also enhanced the life of each fan.

Technology

In the mid-90s, ORIENT FANS, introduced PSPO- the cutting edge technology. PSPO is a revolutionary invention which still remains the most sought after benchmark in the Indian fan industry. PSPO, which stands for Peak Speed Performance Output, encompasses both motor and blade design to ensure that every fan, built with it, delivers more air over a larger area at least electricity cost. This technology incorporates a high torque motor to obtain higher motor efficiency and reduced power consumption, DTA (Double Twist Angle) blades for greater air thrust which are further ribbed for durability and long life and an Auto Speed Retention ensures sustained air flow even during fluctuating voltage conditions.

Domestic Market

Today ORIENT FANS has a strong dealer network of over 3500 dealers in India, who have helped it to become a household name in India, having sold together millions of fans.

International Market

In the export front ORIENT FANS is an undisputed leader in the subcontinent with its presence in over 20 countries worldwide. It also provides technical know-how to companies in Nigeria, Egypt and Sultanate of Oman.
